Ponderings from a pedicure
On Wednesday morning I spent nearly 45 glorious minutes having my feet pedicured.
Warm scented water, minty granules being abraded against my soles and zen like thumbs stretching and pushing the stress aside for a while - at least from my feet.
Having filed the cracked broken skin from my heels, Megan commented, "you'll need to keep coming back you know. If you wear open shoes those cracks on your heel will keep coming back and across here" - she dragged her fingernails across the ball of now supple foot - "you get this from heels."
It got me thinking about how much like minsitry this was - you've gotta do something and whatever it is its going to crack your heels or callous the pads of your feet - there's no escaping it really. There is no perfect place and even when those near you can't see the mess the bottom's of your feet are in, you know. Sshe's right you have to keep going back somewhere to have it dealt with. many years ago at SU national conference Philip Yancy put his bunioned running feet onto the speakers podium and said much the same thing.
So as i contemplate a calendar way too full till Christmas i'm seriously considering how and who to get to tend the feet of my soul next year - so that the cracks don't get any worse....and i'll save the contemplation of wearing sensible practical shoes for another time!
