Public Transport

With the new role has come the opportunity to choose public transport to get to work.

Surprisingly i enjoy it - yes yes I know I may not be saying this in six months when the cold and dark closes in but for now - i enjoy it.

I enjoy how one, just one, person smiling in a morning train carriage changes the whole feel of the day - and I'm reminded that even away from tafe there are plenty of places where being present is all about presence. And how the kingdom of God is a place of welcome and how hospitality isn't really about handing people a paper as they come into a service but its about how we are in the world that we take whereever we are.

I love the intricate swirling dance around the turnstiles at Town Hall - weaving, speeding up, swerving, swaying - as if we're connected to an invisible iPod so everyone moves in time with its tune.

I enjoy the unselfconscious talk of trainees who have been thrilled by being introduced to the Top Sellers and their dreamy planning of what it will be like when they get their names on the board.

i enjoy the space to read about C S Lewis now I'm finally getting around to my Lent readings.

I love the way a painter of houses got up for an old couple who got on the bus on church street, allowing them to sit together awash as they were in the commuting rush, and how he did this even though the move left him squished in next to the guy one seat in front of me - on the old bus seats that aren't big enough for two. His end of the day muscle contractions mirrored in mine and others down the length of the bus as we wavered on the aisle edge of our respective seats widening as much as possible the distance from our seat mates. Which brought back to mind the sensation of heat as I sat between besuited bodies on the train this morning.

i enjoy time to listen in and tune out.

and i'm enjoying the not feeling so tired at the end of the day - so not tired that i can write :-)
